Synopsis Our host explores the historical roots of surfing dating back to the ancient Polynesian Kings. Along the way, she touches on the characters that helped establish the sport and customs of surfing, starting with Hawaiian waterman Duke Kahanamoku. By accessing a rare crop of archive footage from the 1960's - 70's, Brooke tells the story of the birth of professional surfing and the culture that came with it. Furthermore, Angie discusses the biggest change to take place in surfing's evolution - the design of the surfboard. The surfboard has been refined over thousands of years, however the most recent, progressive and influential innovation was the invention of the thruster in 1981 by Simon Anderson.

As an added bonus, we join inventor Simon Anderson, four times women's world champion Stephanie Gilmore, and a crew of other surfers and shapers on a experimental board testing trip. This is a great insight into the relationship that surfer's and there shapers have and the bond that a trip like this forms between the two.
